Artillery matchmaking wot
Matchmaking is typically a vitally important part of any online game, and World of Tanks is no exception. Since the initial game release, players have been both critical and complimentary of the matchmaker, and as a result it has changed greatly over the years. From Tier 6 vehicles being able to meet Tier 10s, to Random Battles with 15 vs 15 Artillery pieces, I think we can all agree the Matchmaker has progressed massively in terms of balance. That being said, nothing is perfect and Wargaming have recently tried to polish their Matchmaker further in Update 9. As is to be expected, the community is once again split between a love for the new Matchmaker, and not so much.
Why the New 9.18 Matchmaker is a Good Thing
With Update 9. Listening to the community the team improved not only the matchmaking system, but also took a necessary look at light tanks and artillery. Acting upon the lessons learnt, they supported the release with massive coverage on the website and forums, walking players through every change 9. On its way to production servers, the update went through the total of five Sandbox and three Common tests and was released in North American, two weeks ahead of the global launch.
What was the reason for this multi-stage cautiousness? Did it pay off? Matchmaker and SPGs called for the most thorough investigation and meticulous approach, with multiple rounds of testing. We made a few rushed changes in the past and the last thing we wanted with 9. So, we started working in Sandbox, nearly a year before the 9.
Thanks to the changes within the tech trees of light tanks gave their popularity a massive push. Two weeks after Update 9. We needed to establish a clear and honest dialogue on every single issue they brought to us. Take skill-based matchmaking, for example. We created Ranked Battles for players who were longing for gameplay built around individual performance. Players who have no interest in participating in Ranked Battles can still engage regular matches, just like bfore Update 9.
Players have been overwhelmingly positive about this two-way dialogue. We were open that if players hated a certain idea and had solid reasoning to back how they felt, we would make adjustments to the initial concept. The 1st Sandbox was a huge success because it saved us from going down the wrong road. We would only be acting on small things we were dead certain about.
After a good five rounds of testing, we arrived on a batch of tweaks the Sandbox community felt worked and went on to include them into 9. Update 9. Communication before the Common test was huge. A lot was about to change and besides ensuring the version worked, we needed to prepare players for what was to come. We went to great lengths to ensure everyone was on the same page as to what the update would bring, how it was going to address problems with matchmaker and arty and why we were choosing this particular way to fix issues.
When it went live there, we all started playing alongside the local community to see how it worked and how they reacted to the changes. The first two weeks were completely mad! In fact, the influx of SPGs and light tanks was so huge that every rule of the matchmaker failed. The biggest complaint players had about light tanks was that we actually made changes from the Common test to the release version, decreasing down their effectiveness.
If you look at the state of the game to. Stopping SPGs from forming and joining them was a tricky decision, which resulted in increased forum chatter. We lifted the restriction limiting their number to just one per Platoon in 9. If a Platoon of three SPGs decides to focus fire on one player, it would be a miserable experience for them, a lot like being trapped permanently. Two-arty Platoons are no better. We needed to do this to measure the effect of the arty revision.
Once we did that, we acted upon player requests and brought them back. Finally, the matchmaker was almost universally appreciated as a step forward. There were some legitimate complaints that we are either acting upon or will be acting upon in future updates. Groups of SPGs were way too powerful, so the team had to limit the number of artillery in battle to avoid player frustration.
Is the stun effect perfect? Is the improved matchmaker working just fine? Moving forward and up until we all — devs and players alike — are certain that the matchmaker, arty and light tanks are where they should be, every single patch will introduce a few improvements to these three. The Matchmaker Explained
Another useful information is the way, in which World of Tanks selects players to the team. Beginner tankers playing with their friends often complain that their vehicle is not able to damage enemy machines, because they are too high tier. Usually the guilty one is game built-in matchmaking system, which selects players to opposing teams. Within this mechanism each tank in the game has so called battle tier: That means that it can encounter only opponents with same battle tier. Problem appears when we want to play with friend in a weak tank:
Matchmaking bias for Artillery
One of the biggest mysteries in World of Tanks aside from why you can't play as the red team is how the matchmaker sorts through players and creates teams. Well, you're about to get the crash course you always wanted. The matchmaker finds a team for players who enter the Random Battle queue. In doing so, several requirements must be met: Another important factor is keeping the queue wait time as small as possible. When creating a battle, the matchmaker first looks to place eligible large Platoons players , followed by artillery and then light tanks with scout matchmaking. After this criterion is met, other players are selected to fill the remaining positions, keeping the team's weight balanced as closely as possible. If the matchmaker struggles to meet the requirements for an eligible match, it eases up on the rules to avoid players spending too much time in the queue. However, the matchmaker never breaks the minimum balance requirements.
Changes to artillery in World of Tanks are around the corner.
Team selection for random battles is done according to several parameters. Each battle takes place in a battle tier , which should not be confused with tank tiers. On this page we always use Arabic numerals "7" when discussing battle tiers and Roman numerals "VII" when discussing tank tiers.

Does artillery have pref matchmaking?
World of Tanks is a global online multiplayer free-to-play game dedicated to tank warfare in the midth century. Okay, it's a amazing free game. I mean it is around GBs of free game. However, I've played for well over a year I belive even two or so , and I can say I've not been a non-stop player. I more or less had random periods of time where I'd reluctantly play, then stop. I've reached the tier 10, for the E, yet can't even play as the tank because it breaks my bank for repair and ammo costs. I worked a year, and possibly two, in order to reach such milestone, and get virtually no satisfaction.

Having WG block 4 of my earned orders in artillery mission 15 Campaign 1, second set , i had to play all the artillery set to unlock those, so recently i was doing just that, using the M Once i've reached the last mission finish top 3 in xp, deal at least dmg, assist at least dmg, win, survive i really started to get frustrated, becouse the matchmaker would mainly give me top and middle tier battles. I was barely getting tier 9 battles - didn't actually keep count of them at the time, but i remember having like 3 or 4 tier 9 battles over a few dozens of games for the lols, 2 of those were on Himmelsdorf, in the same session. I'm really curious though, what kind of MM do you guys experience in tier 7 - 8 artillery? Did i just get "blessed" by the MM becouse the mission's specific conditions, or is artillery matchmaker different from the broken crap all other classes are getting at those tiers?
