If the dating scene in your town has you and your single friends longing for the days of arranged marriages, or if you're happily attached and ready to take your matchmaking urges to the next level, it may be time to consider hosting a speed dating event. Speed dating has been around since , when Rabbi Yaacov Deyo and several of his single students put a new twist on the longstanding Jewish tradition of introducing young Jewish singles to one another at chaperoned gatherings. At a speed dating event, participants are paired up in a series of quick five- to seven-minute "dates. While seven minutes may not seem long enough to determine whether a new acquaintance is a potential match, Rabbi Deyo and other speed dating organizers have found that it gives participants plenty of time to gauge their level of interest or get a feeling that the other person is just not the right fit.

I took off my clothes for naked speed dating on Thursday and went on a Tinder date on Friday. The evening was held at Dirty Martini in the City, a location that carried a lot of anticipation. In my mind, it would be the equivalent of an impromptu Mad Men office party: Thirdly, speed dating is actually a bit like Tinder. A lot of swipes left, with a golden trump card hidden somewhere beyond the pervy, suggestive and the strange. My co-host for the evening was Tom, a tall, assertive man who has worked with Rob Ryall, founder of Date in a Dash, for three years. As is speed dating tradition, the ladies are seated, as the gentlemen walk from table to table with about three minutes to find love. The stereotypical characters are all there: Rest assured, the only company in my bed that night was a burger from my local kebab shop. After greeting the guests, it was on to the big speech.

All save one declined, but one who missed out wanted to do it again. Hence us ending up at the Lock and Key event. We showed up at the Palms and had no idea where exactly the event was. Words by Annabel. Being a proactive sort of girl I thought it best to tackle this phenomenon head on and go speed dating. With the promise of 25 dates in one night, what could possibly go wrong? I swipe through more than that in an average bus ride to work, so why not get some balls and go meet these men in real life. After a heavy 4 day weekend I felt completely shattered and was slightly apprehensive as I head down the basement of The Bookclub in Shoreditch with two of my best looking guy friends, to check out the sold out monthly event. A half hour pre-drink session to help ease the nerves, a piece of white card to jot down the names of any potential suitors and away we went with the girls staying put and the guys moving around the tables every 3 minutes. My favourite was being asked to show my best party trick; my bendy arms came out along with his face of disgust and horror. How To Organise A Speed Dating Event?
